Star Fish Concept ( Explaination)

After the discussion among the group members of Little Star group, we decided to use the concepts of fish bone, Maslow theory and Lean System. In order to solve the problem of Pharmaniaga, we have applied the lean system and Maslow theory to solve it. We categorize the problems that faced by Pharmaniaga under the CSR component which will be describe detail as below. The fish bone trucks are showing the solution concept generated by using the workforce component of Lean System and the fish head is the triangle head with Maslow theory. We combine these two theories and create the Star Fish Model.

  1. Employee Engagement

In the theories of employee engagement, employees are given chance to makes discretionary efforts. This means that when employees have choice, they will act in a way that furthers their organization’s interest. An engaged employee is a person who is fully involved in, and enthusiastic about, his or her work. In addition, engaged employees care about the future of the company and are willing to invest the discretionary effort. Engaged employees also feel a strong emotional bond to the organization that employs them.

  1. Employee Improvement

Employee improvement is the concept of organizational change in which an organization put into place and manage a program which measures the current level of performance of the organization and then generates ideas for modifying organizational behavior and infrastructure which are put into place in order to achieve a better level of employee performance The primary goals of organizational improvement are to improve organizational effectiveness and efficiency in order to improve the ability of the organization to deliver its goods and services.

  1. Employee Virtual Team

Best employees may be located anywhere in the world. Nowadays workers are demand personal flexibility. A flexible organization is more competitive and responsive to the marketplace. This will result workers tend to be more productive because they spend less time on commuting and travel. In addition, organization will have the talent workers from anywhere I the world. This is the boundary of the world no longer become a constraint to the international workers.

  1. Employee Cross Training

Cross-training refers to training in different ways to improve overall performance. It takes advantage of the particular effectiveness of each training method, while at the same time attempting to neglect the shortcomings of that method by combining it with other methods that address its weaknesses. Cross-training in operations involves training employees to engage in quality control measures. Employees are trained in tangent job functions to increase oversight in ways that are impossible through management interactions with workers alone. This training can help the workers to see an organization as a whole.

This is the explanation of Maslow theory from the lowest stage to the highest stage.

1. Physiological

These are the basic human needs for such things as food, warmth, sex, water, and other body needs. If a person is hungry or thirsty or his body is chemically unbalanced, all of his energies turn toward remedying these deficiencies, and other needs remain inactive. This shown the importance of the physiological needs to the worker’s productivity and the level of well being. If the organization can’t fulfill the workers these basic need, consequently the whole workforce will be drive down.

2. Safety

Workers need safety in order to do their job well. If the workforce is dangerous to the workers, the workers won’t feel safe to do their job. This will decrease their productivity. Safety needs include personal security from crime, financial security, health and well-being. This mean that increase the workplace safety and launching some procedures, precautions in the workplace is crucial to increase the employee well being.

3. Social

Everybody needs friends. No one can survive by living alone. Social bonding is plays an important role to determine a worker employee well being. Humans need to feel a sense of belonging and acceptance, whether it comes from a large social group or small social connections. They need to love and love by others. In the absence of these elements, many people become susceptible to loneliness, social anxiety and depression. This will lead the decrease of worker productivity and bring loss to an organization.

4. Self Esteem

All humans have a need to be respected, to have self-esteem and to respect others. People need to engage themselves to gain recognition and have an activity or activities that give the person a sense of contribution, to feel accepted and self-valued, be it in a profession or hobby. Imbalances at this level can result in low self-esteem, inferiority complexes. People with low self-esteem need respect from others. They may seek fame or glory, which again depends on others.

5. Self Actualization

In Maslow's scheme, the final stage of psychological development comes when the individual feels assured that his physiological, security, affiliation and affection, self-respect, and recognition needs have been satisfied. As these become dormant, he becomes filled with a desire to realize all of his potential for being an effective, creative, mature human being.
